Most of us rely heavily on cell phones and other electronic devices for a lot of different reasons. But nowadays, as the number of Covid cases increase dramatically, it’s important to disinfect and clean your cell phones to protect yourself.

But while on the process of disinfecting your phone, you also need to think of a way to prevent scratching or staining it or creating any other damage to the screen.

So how do you disinfect your electronic devices? What cleaning solutions do you need to use? What’s the best non scratch cleaning cloth that you can use to prevent any damage?

Best Cleaning Solutions to Disinfect and Clean Devices

#1. Alcohol

Once you touch your phone in public, the tendency is to clean it with alcohol afterward. Because who would want to get infected with the Coronavirus right?

But it’s not advisable to use rubbing alcohol directly in cleaning your devices’ screen.

Your phone’s screen for example has oleophobic and hydrophobic coatings. These coatings keep oil and water from damaging your display and other ports. So how to do it?

Step 1: Unplug or turn off your device before cleaning.
Step 2: Mix 60% water and 40% alcohol.
Step 3: Spray on a non scratch cleaning cloth.
Step 4: Wipe the screen and body of your device using the wet cloth.
Step 5: Dry the device using a clean, dry non scratch cloth.

Warning: Do not submerge your phone or device on the mixture.

Warning: Avoid using aerosols, bleach to abrasives to clean your device

Warning: Avoid wiping the ports of your devices or phone.

Samsung provided a guide on how to clean your Samsung device. This includes using a soft microfiber cloth and an alcohol-based solution using ethanol or isopropyl.

The steps are as follows:

Step 1: Power down or unplug your device.
Step 2: Use a microfiber cleaning cloth or camera lens cleaning cloth.

Step 3: Dip a small portion of your microfiber cloth on distilled water or “use a disinfectant, such as a hypochlorous acid-based solution (containing 50–80ppm) or an alcohol-based solution (containing more than 70% ethanol or isopropyl alcohol). Do not apply these liquid solutions directly to your phone; they should be carefully applied to a microfiber cloth instead.”

Step 4: Wipe the front and back of your phone gently.
Step 5: Dry the device using a clean, dry non scratch cloth.

Warning: Avoid wiping the ports of your devices or phone.

Warning: Do not spray the mixture directly on the device.

#2. Wet Wipes

Before, tech companies would attach a warning note on your device with advice to prevent you from using any wet wipes to clean it.

But Apple recently made a statement saying it’s ok to clean your phone, ipads and macbooks using any disinfectant wipes or Clorox wipes. The change is in view of the recent virus outbreak spreading around the world.

According to Apple Support Site

“Using a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, you may gently wipe the hard, nonporous surfaces of your Apple product, such as the display, keyboard, or other exterior surfaces. Don’t use bleach. Avoid getting moisture in any opening, and don’t submerge your Apple product in any cleaning agents. Don’t use on fabric or leather surfaces.”
